UPDATE: CBP Statement on Agent Involved Fatal Shooting in Hidalgo, TX

HIDALGO, Texas– On January 29, 2021, at approximately 7:38 a.m., a United States Border Patrol agent was involved in a use-of-force incident in Hidalgo, Texas, approximately one mile away from the Hidalgo Port of Entry.  The agent was responding to a report of several illegal entries.  The incident occurred while the agent was attempting to apprehend a subject and the agent discharged his weapon.

The suspect, an adult male, sustained a gunshot wound. Agents on scene immediately rendered aid and contacted Emergency Medical Services (EMS). The injured subject was transported to a local hospital by EMS where he was pronounced deceased at 9:00 a.m.

The agent was not injured.

The incident is currently under investigation by the CBP Office of Professional Responsibility, DHS Office of Inspector General, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
