EDINBURG, Texas – Over the weekend, Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol agents interdicted three marijuana smuggling loads that had a total weight of more than 600 pounds and is valued at approximately $500,000.

On Saturday afternoon, an agent assigned to the Fort Brown (FTB) Border Patrol Station observed a male subject near the border wall in Brownsville, Texas.  As agents approached the area, the subject abandoned a single bundle of marijuana and was observed fleeing towards the Rio Grande and into Mexico.  The weight of the marijuana was more than 46 pounds and is valued at over $37K.

Later that evening, FTB agents observed four subjects carrying bundles of marijuana walking towards the levee road in Brownsville, Texas. When the subjects detected the responding agents, they abandoned the bundles and ran south toward the Rio Grande.  Agents seized the four bundles of marijuana and conducted a search of the area for additional bundles and the subjects. Agents did not find any additional bundles, and the suspects were not located.  The weight of the marijuana is approximately 116 pounds and is worth over $93K.

Yesterday, an agent assigned to the Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station observed several subjects carrying bundles of marijuana away from the Rio Grande in Garceno, Texas.  The agent requested assistance from nearby agents in order to interdict the narcotic smuggling event.  Agents responded to the area and were able to locate seven bundles of marijuana.  Agents located an additional bundle in the brush during a search of the area, but did not locate or apprehend any subjects during this smuggling attempt.  The marijuana seized weighs approximately 462 pounds and is valued at almost $370K.

All the marijuana seized was processed and will be turned over to the appropriate authorities.
