Andrade CBP Officers Find Gun and Ammo in Woman's Purse, Duffle Bag

Release Date
Mon, 12/20/2010

Andrade, Calif. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers and Border Patrol agents performing southbound inspections at the Andrade border crossing discovered a gun and ammunition inside the belongings of a 25-year-old woman.

At about 4:30 p.m. Saturday officers inspecting vehicles and pedestrians leaving the United States stopped the woman, a U.S. citizen from Yuma, Ariz., before she walked into Mexico carrying her purse and a large duffle bag.

As the officers and agents interviewed the woman, she became visibly nervous, so they inspected her bag and purse. They found an unloaded .40-caliber Heckler and Koch handgun in her purse, and nine rounds of ammunition in the duffle bag.

CBP seized the weapon and ammunition, and turned the woman over the Imperial County Sheriff's Office. She was transported to the Imperial County Jail and will face criminal charges.
