Yuma, Ariz.--Anthony J. Porvaznik, an agent with 26 years of law enforcement experience with the U.S. Border Patrol, has been promoted to Chief Patrol Agent of Yuma Sector. Charged with overseeing operations in Yuma Sector’s area of operations, Chief Porvaznik brings more than two decades of significant operational and strategic-level experience and accomplishments to his new assignment.

Chief Porvaznik’s Border Patrol career began in September 1988 when he entered on duty at Calexico Station in El Centro Sector. In 1992, Yuma Sector’s newest chief graduated from the Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC) Basic Selection Course as a member of Class VIII.
In 1993, he went on to serve in San Diego Sector at Brownfield and El Cajon stations. In 1998, he was promoted to Supervisory Border Patrol Agent. He served as a Law Instructor at the Border Patrol Academy in Glynco, Georgia, and later as a Firearms Instructor at the Border Patrol Academy in Charleston, South Carolina.
He transferred to El Paso, Texas, in 2001 as a Field Operations Supervisor for BORTAC.
Chief Porvaznik was promoted to an Assistant Chief at Office of Border Patrol Headquarters, serving there from 2005 to 2007, and later to Patrol Agent in Charge of the El Paso Sector’s Special Operations Division in 2007. In 2010, he promoted to BORTAC Commander.
In 2012, Chief Porvaznik promoted to Associate Chief and appointed Special Operations Group Director in El Paso, Texas. As Director, he was responsible for overseeing BORTAC; Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue (BORSTAR); and Mobile Response Teams (MRT).
A graduate of the CBP Leadership Institute in 2010, he also graduated Summa Cum Laude from Ashford University with a bachelor’s degree in organizational management.
Chief Porvaznik is married and has one daughter.
