Bearded Man Caught Using Woman's SENTRI Card

San Diego - Many times, imposters trying to enter the United States are difficult to spot.

They try to use a legitimate entry document whose rightful owner is a close match to their own physical description. Or imposters even go so far as to dye their hair, or make other alterations to attempt a closer match.

But sometimes, spotting an imposter is less challenging.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Ysidro port of entry Friday caught a male illegal immigrant attempting to use a woman's SENTRI card to enter the United States.

The 22-year-old male Mexican citizen, who has a beard, applied for entry at the pedestrian processing area at about 6 p.m., providing the CBP officer a SENTRI card as his travel document.

Noting that the card belonged to a 44-year-old woman, the officer pulled the man out of line for further inspection. The officer confirmed that the SENTRI card did not belong to him, and that he had no legal documents to enter the United States.

The man was returned to Mexico.

CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
