Border Patrol Agents Intercept Two Meth Smuggling Attempts

CALEXICO, Calif. – El Centro Sector Border Patrol Agents intercepted two narcotics smuggling attempts in two separate events on Wednesday.

complex. 

The first incident occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m., when a Remote Video Surveillance System operator notified agents of a man recovering several objects near the International Boundary Fence behind an apartment complex approximately one mile east of the Calexico Downtown West Port of Entry.  Agents responded and upon making contact, they observed the man throwing several packages over a cinder block wall into the apartment complex.  Agents recovered five packages wrapped in black tape that contained a crystal-like substance.  Agents arrested the man and transported him and the narcotics to the Calexico Border Patrol Station for further processing.

At the station, the packages tested positive for methamphetamine, with a weight of 2.64 pounds with an estimated street value of $5,940.

The man, a 41-year-old United States citizen and the methamphetamine were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The second incident occurred at approximately 10:10 p.m., when a man driving a black Toyota Camry along with a male passenger approached the checkpoint.  A Border Patrol K-9 detection team alerted to the vehicle in the primary inspection lane.  Agents directed the vehicle to enter the secondary inspection area for further investigation.

In a second incident agents seized nearly six pounds
of methamphetamine.

While in secondary inspection, agents discovered five cellophane wrapped bundles concealed within the spare tire area containing a white crystal-like substance inside.  The substance tested positive for the characteristics of methamphetamine.  The men were placed under arrest and were taken to the detention area for further processing.

The total weight of the methamphetamine discovered was approximately 5.95 pounds with an estimated value of $13,387.

The men, a 24-year-old United States citizen, a 22-year-old Unites States citizen, the vehicle and the narcotics were turned over to the Border Crime Suppression Team.
