TUCSON, Ariz. – U.S. Border Patrol agents discovered methamphetamine in a sedan’s gas tank at the Interstate 19 Immigration Checkpoint near Amado, Arizona, early Tuesday morning.
Tucson Sector agents encountered the 2007 Volkswagen Jetta around 4:15 a.m. After referring the vehicle to secondary inspection, agents conducted a consensual search of the car, finding more than 31 pounds of suspected meth inside the gas tank.

The drugs have a street value of about $62,000.
The U.S. citizen driver was arrested on federal drug smuggling charges. The case has since been referred to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
