Release Date

LAREDO, Texas – Border Patrol agents assigned to the Laredo Sector Marine Unit took quick action and rescued one individual from the Rio Grande River near downtown Laredo.

The event happened during the early evening of September 26, when agents responded to a report of an individual struggling to swim across the river. Agents successfully maneuvered their Service boat into close proximity so that the crewmembers could pull the individual out of the water and safely onto the vessel.

The individual was determined to be a Mexican national without immigration documents. Border Patrol Emergency Medical Technicians assisted and evaluated the individual and determined that he required further medical assistance due to several injuries. The Laredo Fire Department transported the individual to the nearest hospital where he was treated and eventually cleared for processing.

Despite the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, U.S. Border Patrol agents continue to provide aid to those in need. The Laredo Sector is made up of agents who continue to meet the Enduring Mission Priorities of the agency to Counter Terrorism, Combat Transnational Crime, Secure the Border, Facilitate Lawful Trade and Travel while Protecting Revenue.

To report suspicious activity such as alien and/or drug smuggling, download the “USBP Laredo Sector” App or contact the Laredo Sector Border Patrol toll free at 1-800-343-1994. If you see something, please say something.
