Border Patrol Seizes Large Number of Marijuana Bundles

LAREDO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Zapata Station seized a large number of abandoned narcotics south of Zapata, Texas.

The incident happened during the mid-afternoon of November 23, when agents acted on information of a possible narcotics smuggling attempt at a ranch south of the town.  Responding agents discovered 84 bundles of marijuana abandoned in the brush. The bundles had an approximate weight of 959.56 pounds with an estimated street value of $767,648.  The narcotics were subsequently turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Laredo Sector Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak said, “Patrolling our borders remains a 24/7 operation, even during holidays and the COVID pandemic. I am proud of the diligence of our agents and this large seizure that resulted from their relentless efforts.”

Even with the presence of the COVID-19 pandemic, narcotics smugglers continue their brazen attempts to bring drugs into our country.  U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Laredo Sector will continue to be vigilant in securing the Nation’s borders and preventing the smuggling of drugs.
