Boston - This past weekend, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Logan International Airport apprehended a 42-year-old man, a citizen of Dominican Republic and a resident of the United States as he was trying to depart the United States for the Dominican Republic.

During a routine outbound inspection, CBP officers conducted a series of enforcement checks and discovered the man had a warrant for his arrest for possession of dangerous drugs in a school zone.

"Once again, CBP officers at Logan Airport, while performing a routine examination of departing passengers apprehended a wanted fugitive" said Director of Field Operations Kevin Weeks. "In addition to the responsibility of preventing terrorists and weapons of terror from entering the United States, CBP enforces a broad range of laws that relate to protecting public safety and commerce."

CBP officers not only conduct routine examinations of passengers and vehicles entering the United States but also exiting the country.

The man was turned over to the Massachusetts State Police for prosecution.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
