Records checks revealed the Mexican national was convicted of sexual offenses against a child in Monmouth County, New Jersey, in 2018. Hernandez-Sanchez was removed from the United States later that year after he completed his prison sentence.

As a previously removed aggravated felon, Hernandez-Sanchez now faces immigration prosecution.

All people apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure illegal aliens with criminal histories are positively identified.
