Tucson Sector agents stopped the vehicle for an immigration inspection on federal Route 20 around 5 p.m. During the encounter, they found three people hidden inside the sedan’s trunk. All three were Guatemalan nationals determined to be illegally present in the United States.

The U.S. citizen driver was arrested and faces federal charges for human smuggling while the three illegal aliens will be processed for illegally entering the country.

All people apprehended by the Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure illegal aliens with criminal histories are positively identified.
