DEL RIO, TEXAS—U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Brackettville Station apprehended a convicted sex offender Saturday morning.

Agents patrolling near Highway 131 encountered Mario Olalde-Garcia, 52, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico. During processing, agents discovered that Olalde-Garcia had been previously deported from the United States and was a convicted sex offender. Criminal records checks revealed Olalde-Garcia had a 2003 conviction out of Austin, Texas for Aggravated Sexual Assault on a Child.

Olalde-Garcia will be charged with illegal entry - 8 USC 1326 - and his prior order of removal will be reinstated.

So far, during fiscal year 2013, Del Rio Sector agents have apprehended a total of 14 convicted sex offenders. The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the South Texas Campaign, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
