Brownsville Port of Entry CBP Officers Seize $268K in Methamphetamine at Gateway International Bridge

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Gateway International Bridge intercepted a load of alleged methamphetamine, hidden within a 2012 Toyota Corolla.

“This is yet another significant seizure of dangerous drugs which displays our officers’ commitment to stopping dangerous narcotics from entering our country and secure our border,” said Port Director Tater Ortiz, Brownsville Port of Entry.

The seizure took place on Friday, Oct. 23, at the Gateway International Bridge when a 36-year-old female United States citizen applied for entry into the United States driving a 2012 Toyota Corolla. The vehicle was referred to CBP secondary for further examination after a primary inspection.  In secondary, with the aid of a non-intrusive imaging system (NII) and a canine unit, CBP officers discovered 11 packages which contained a total of 13.4 pounds of alleged methamphetamine.

The estimated street value of the methamphetamine from the seizure is $268,079.

CBP officers seized the narcotics along with the vehicle, arrested the driver and turned her over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
