Atlanta - United States Customs and Border Protection officers at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport have arrested an individual wanted for sexual assault.
The arrest occurred April 14, when CBP officers encountered a 24-year-old United States citizen who was arriving from Japan. Upon performing routine data base checks, it was discovered the man was wanted for sexual assault by authorities in Bexar County, Texas.
After the individual was identified and the warrant confirmed, he was arrested and turned over to the Atlanta Police Department for extradition. "CBP takes seriously its responsibility to safeguard the American public," said Stephen Kremer, area Port Director in Atlanta. "This latest arrest is an excellent example of how CBP helps to keep Americans safe."
During Fiscal Year 2009, more than 9,500 people wanted for a variety of charges, to include serious criminal crimes such as murder, rape, and child molestation were apprehended at CBP ports of entry.
