LEWISTON, N.Y. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Lewiston Bridge Port of Entry encountered a citizen of the Democratic Republic of Congo attempting to illegally enter the United States by impersonating a U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) card holder.

On Tuesday morning, a vehicle being driven by Jean Pierre IMANI, a citizen of Congo and USLPR, and passenger Serge MAOMBI, a citizen of Congo, attempted to make entry into the U.S. by using U.S. LPR cards.  During the initial inspection, a CBP officer noted inconsistencies in the appearance of Serge MAOMBI to the presented photo.  During a more thorough inspection, it was determined that the subject was not the same individual as represented on the card.  “Our officers use all aspects of their training and technology in the determination of legitimate travelers,” said Acting Area Port Director Richard Roberts.  “These officers work diligently to catch all forms of illegal activity, to include entry attempts by imposters.”

Federal prosecution was accepted by the United States Attorney Office on both the imposter, Serge MAOMBI, and the driver of the vehicle, Jean Pierre IMANI.
