ANZALDUAS, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Anzalduas International Bridge arrested a Mexican national lawful permanent resident from Rio Grande City, Texas who had an outstanding arrest warrant from Odessa, Texas for intoxicated vehicular manslaughter.
“Our ability to check every person’s identity through our databases allows our officers to detect those individuals who may require further inspection or who have outstanding arrest warrants such as this,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/ Anzalduas.
On Dec. 27, 2020, the 34-year-old man, Edgar Cruz Mendoza, arrived at the Anzalduas-Reynosa International Bridge in a vehicle and CBP officers arrested him after discovering he had several arrest warrants from the Ector County Sheriff’s Office. The warrants which included driving while intoxicated (DWI), intoxicated vehicular manslaughter and other related felony charges were issued on Dec. 21 for an incident that occurred on Oct. 27, 2019 where Mendoza was allegedly involved in an accident that had fatal consequences.
Criminal charges are merely allegations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
