Lukeville, Ariz - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Lukeville port of entry made two significant seizures with a total street value of $1,126,900.
"These have been excellent enforcement actions by our technically and operationally fine tuned CBP officers at the Lukeville POE," said Port Director Richard A. Gill. "They have proven to be true guardians of our nation's borders."
On March 22, CBP officers processing travelers from Mexico referred a Nissan Frontier for further inspection due to the suspicion raised during the interview process with the 44-year-old Phoenix resident and her passenger. The thorough inspection conducted determined the truck bed of the vehicle the woman was driving contained more than 260 pounds of marijuana. The marijuana with a street value of $588,600, and the truck were seized.
The second case occurred on March 23, when a 37-year-old man from Goodyear entered the U.S. driving a Ford F-150. The CBP officers conducted a through inspection of the truck which included a narcotic detector dog and the X-ray and determined there was almost 12 pounds of heroin secreted within the driveshaft of the truck. The heroin valued at $538,300 and truck were seized.
