Kansas City - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers apprehended a male U.S. Citizen with a warrant, at the Kansas City International Airport this morning. The warrant out of Manhattan, Kan., was for making threats against a University of Kansas student.
While CBP officers conducting routine checks on a departing flight bound for Cancun Mexico, discovered Andrew Dunn, age 21, as the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant for making threats against a female student. CBP officers stopped Dunn as he was boarding an airplane bound for spring break.
CBP officers arrested Dunn after a positive identity match revealed that he was the subject of a NCIC warrant. NCIC is the abbreviation for National Criminal Information Center and is a centralized automated database designed to share information among law enforcement agencies. After confirming his identity and warrant with authorities, the Airport Police Department took custody of Dunn awaiting extradition to Manhattan, Kan. It is reported that Dunn was polite and cooperative during the arrest procedure.
"Use of a law enforcement database by CBP officers in Kansas City was instrumental in the apprehension of this wanted individual," said David Murphy, CBP director of Field Operations in Chicago. "This is another good example of the important work being done by CBP at the international airport."
U.S. Customs and Border Protection's top priority is to keep terrorists and their weapons from entering the United States. While welcoming all legitimate travelers and trade, CBP officers enforce all applicable U.S. laws. CBP prevents narcotics, agricultural pests and smuggled goods from entering and exiting the country and also identifies and arrests those with outstanding criminal warrants.
