CBP Officers in Buffalo Arrest Man Wanted on Charges of Sex Offenses Against a Minor

Buffalo, N.Y.- U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Office of Field Operations arrested a United States citizen wanted in West Virginia on sex offense charges.

On July 25, CBP officers encountered 38-year-old Steven Douglas Shuck II, a United States citizen from Ridgeley, W. Va., as he applied for admission at the Peace Bridge border crossing in Buffalo. Mr. Shuck advised the primary CBP officer that his intent was not to enter Canada. He claimed that he just needed some time away, and left his hometown that day, ending up in Western New York.

Mr. Shuck stated that while he was attempting to locate a store in the area, his GPS inadvertently directed him across the international bridge and he ended up in Canada. After explaining the situation to Canadian authorizes, he was allowed to turn around and return to the United States. CBP officers performed a primary name query revealing that Mr. Shuck may be the subject of an active felony warrant, and he was referred for CBP secondary enforcement exam.

During secondary processing, additional record checks confirmed that Mr. Shuck was in fact the subject of a no-bond felony warrant issued the day before on July 24, by the Mineral County (W.Va) Sheriff's Office. The warrant charges Mr. Shuck with sex offenses against a minor.

CBP officers verified the validity of the warrant and confirmed extradition to West Virginia. Mr. Shuck was arrested and turned over to the custody of the Buffalo Police Department pending extradition to West Virginia.
