CBP Officers at Hidalgo International Bridge Detect $365K in Methamphetamine

HIDALGO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge arrested a man from Mission, Texas after detecting $365,000 worth of alleged methamphetamine concealed within the vehicle he was driving.

“Our frontline officers detected and intercepted this compact but significant seizure of hard narcotics and kept these drugs from entering into our communities,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

On Feb. 11, 2021, a 29-year-old male U.S. citizen driving a Chevy Malibu arrived at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge from Mexico and a CBP officer referred him for further inspection. Utilizing all available tools and resources, officers conducting the secondary examination discovered eight packages of alleged methamphetamine weighing 18.25 pounds (8.28 kg) hidden within the vehicle.

CBP OFO seized the narcotics, the vehicle and arrested the driver who was then turned over to the custody of agents with Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation.
