Hidalgo, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Hidalgo International Bridge seized 7.4 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $237,038.
On May 5, CBP officers working at the Hidalgo International Bridge came in contact with two northbound female travelers. A 45-year-old U.S. citizen from Dalton, Ga., was driving a 1999 Plymouth Voyager Van and was accompanied by a 20-year-old U.S. citizen also from Dalton. A CBP officer referred both women and vehicle to secondary for further inspection. In secondary, officers seized six cocaine packages that were found hidden in the vehicle's battery. CBP officers seized the vehicle and cocaine.
The two women were transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation.
Hector A. Mancha, CBP port director Hidalgo-Pharr said, "I commend our frontline officers for their work in intercepting and seizing this drug load." Mancha further said, "Our officers continue working hard to prevent these types of dangerous drugs from entering our country and our communities. This is an example of us securing our nation's borders."
