Hidalgo, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working the Hidalgo/Reynosa International Bridge intercepted an allegedly counterfeit U.S. admissions stamp found stamped in a Mexican-issued passport.
On March 17, CBP officers working the northbound pedestrian lanes at the Hidalgo/Reynosa International Bridge came in contact with a male traveler returning from Mexico. At primary, the traveler was identified as a 30-year-old Mexican citizen from Naucalpan, Mexico. After the initial primary examination, the traveler was referred to secondary for further inspection. In secondary, officers determined that the U.S. admission stamp found stamped on the Mexican passport was counterfeit. CBP officers seized the passport and the counterfeit admissions stamp.
The male traveler was taken into custody by CBP officers and charged with an immigration law violation.
Hector A. Mancha, CBP port director, Anzalduas, Pharr and Hidalgo said, "Our frontline officers are well trained in document analysis and technology and they were able to apply that knowledge to intercept a document with an allegedly counterfeit admissions stamp."
