MINNEAPOLIS— U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Minneapolis recently seized almost 2,500 unapproved tire rims exported from Thailand.Rims

On October 19, CBP officers inspected the shipment to determine the admissibility of the shipment and its contents. The shipment, manifested as steel wheels, with a country of origin of Thailand, was going to a company in Minneapolis. When officers inspected the railcar they found 20 pallets containing 2,446 wheel rims.

Photos of the shipment were sent to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) to determine the admissibility. NHTSA determined that the company is not a registered manufacturer and the rims were inadmissible. The domestic value of the rims had a MSRP value of more than $47,500.

“CBP is focused on identifying and intercepting unsafe merchandise and products. The enforcement of trade laws at U.S. ports of entry remains a high priority for us,” said Augustine Moore, Port Director-Minneapolis. “Our officers are committed to detecting, intercepting and seizing unapproved goods, which protects consumers and the economy.”
