Roma, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers working at the Roma International Bridge seized 10.7 pounds of cocaine and 12.9 pounds of methamphetamine yesterday afternoon. The combined estimated street value of the seized drugs is $539,046. The cocaine is valued at $344,637, while the methamphetamine was valued at $194,409.
On Sept. 15, CBP officers working at the Roma International Bridge came in contact with a northbound 2003 Ford Windstar van. The driver of the van was identified as a 34-year-old U.S. citizen from Roma, Texas and his female passenger was identified as a 32-year-old Mexican citizen from Pasadena, Texas. A CBP officer referred the northbound couple and vehicle to secondary for further inspection. In secondary, officers seized 12 packages containing cocaine and 18 additional packages containing methamphetamine. All of the drugs were found hidden within the vehicle. The vehicle was also seized by CBP.
Both travelers were transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement - Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) for further investigation.
Cris Cantu, CBP port director, Roma said, "Our frontline officers remain vigilant and continue working hard to prevent these types of illegal shipments from entering our country, and the communities in which we live and work." Cantu further said, "I commend our officers for a job well done."
