SAN DIEGO — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Ysidro port of entry Wednesday seized 112 pounds of methamphetamine, valued at more than $369,000.

“CBP’s canine team is a vital tool in our efforts to secure our nation’s borders,” said San Diego CBP Director of Field Operations, Pete Flores. “CBP officers are the first line of defense and this apprehension ensures that these drugs will not plague our local communities.”

At about 6:40 a.m., CBP officers working at the San Ysidro border crossing encountered a 24-year-old male United States citizen when he entered the U.S. driving a Nissan Frontier. A CBP canine team was screening vehicles as they waited in line for inspection when the detector dog alerted to the undercarriage of the vehicle.

CBP officers referred the vehicle for a more in-depth inspection.  CBP officers used the port’s imaging system and observed anomalies in the bed of the vehicle. CBP officers extracted 68 wrapped packages of methamphetamine weighing 112 pounds. The estimated street value of the narcotics is $369,000.

The driver was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations agents for further processing.

CBP officers seized the vehicle.
