CBP Officers Seize $2.9M in Methamphetamine, Heroin and Fentanyl at World Trade Bridge

LAREDO, Texas – As many public employees enjoyed the long Labor Day weekend, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at World Trade Bridge maintained their vigilance and seized another significant poly-drug load containing methamphetamine, heroin and Fentanyl valued at $2.9 million.

“While many people took advantage of Labor Day sales this weekend, our frontline CBP officers continue to uphold our border security mission and the judicious application of inspection experience and technology resulted in yet another poly-drug load with an overall value exceeding $2.9 million,” said Port Director Albert Flores, Laredo Port of Entry.

The seizure occurred on Friday, Aug. 31, when a CBP officer referred a 2011 International tractor hauling a shipment of metal oil filters for a non-intrusive imaging system inspection.  After conducting a thorough examination and utilizing CBP canines, CBP officers discovered 49 bags containing 131 pounds of alleged methamphetamine, 15 bundles containing 34.61 pounds of alleged heroin, four bundles containing 9.4 pounds of Fentanyl and three bundles containing 6.87 pounds of acetaminophen with trace amounts of Fentanyl hidden within the conveyance. The narcotics have a combined estimated street value of $2.9 million.

CBP officers seized the narcotics and arrested the driver, a 27-year-old male Mexican citizen. The case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
