CBP Officers at Texas Bridge Apprehend Woman Carrying Heroin

Pharr, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Pharr, Texas International Bridge seized 432 grams of heroin yesterday afternoon. The estimated street value of the heroin is $76,200.

CBP officers working at the bridge came in contact with a northbound female taxicab passenger. After the initial primary inspection, the passenger was identified as a 24-year-old Dominican citizen from Bronx, New York. A CBP officer referred the traveler for further inspection.

CBP officers conducted a search and referred the traveler to a medical facility for further examination. At the medical facility, the female traveler expelled several pellets containing heroin from her body.

CBP officers seized the heroin and transferred the traveler to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation.

CBP acting Port Director Sylvia Briones said, "Our primary frontline officers did great work in screening this traveler and referring her to secondary for further inspection. This is a great example of the work our officers do to secure our nation's borders and communities."

CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
