Ogdensburg, N.Y. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced the arrest of a United States citizen wanted by Texas Authorities for improper relations between an educator and student and for probation violation.
On September 21, CBP officers received notification from Canada Border Services Agency that 37-year-old Cody Ledbetter, a United States citizens from Bangs, Texas, was being deported from Canada. Canadian authorities advised CBP that Ledbetter was arrested August 4 and charged with assaulting and threatening his girlfriend. Record checks by Canadian authorities revealed the possibility of an active warrant in the United States. Ledbetter was returned to the United States via the Ogdensburg, N.Y. port of entry
Upon his removal, CBP officers performed additional records checks and verified that Ledbetter was in fact the subject of an active nation-wide felony warrant issued on September 17, 2009 by the Tarrant County, Texas sheriff's department. The warrant stems from a guilty plea of two counts of having an "improper relationship" with a 16-year-old female student at a high school where he coached football in 2005. Ledbetter was a backup quarterback for the Canadian Football League's Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Edmonton Eskimos and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He retired in 2002.
CBP officers verified the validity of the warrants and confirmed the extradition. Ledbetter was arrested by CBP and turned over to the custody of the Ogdensburg City, N.Y. Police Department pending extradition to Texas.
