CBP U.S. Border Patrol Agents Seize 267 Pounds of Marijuana

Yuma, Ariz. - U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Yuma sector seized approximately 267 pounds of marijuana and arrested five suspected smugglers on Thursday.

Border Patrol agents assigned to the Wellton station observed several individuals south of mile marker 91 on Interstate 8. Agents followed the individual's footprints and encountered five large makeshift backpacks. Continuing to track the footprints in the surrounding area, they discovered five Mexican nationals attempting to avoid apprehension. The five large bundles of marijuana had a combined weight of 267.9 pounds.

The marijuana, with an estimated street value of $214,320, and the five subjects were turned over to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
