CBP U.S. Border Patrol Holds Change of Command at Sonoita Station

Tucson, Ariz. - The U.S. Border Patrol's Tucson sector hosted a change of command ceremony for newly selected Patrol Agent in Charge Michael Hyatt of the Sonoita station. Hyatt assumed responsibility of the Sonoita Border Patrol station as distinguished guests, elected officials, community partners, family and friends witnessed the station's leadership transition.

The ceremony was held Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Sonoita Fairgrounds Pioneer Hall in Sonoita, Ariz. The reviewing official was Chief Patrol Agent Victor M. Manjarrez, Jr. of the Tucson sector.

"I am humbled by this opportunity to lead a Border Patrol Station," said Hyatt. "I am looking forward to establishing a partnership with our community and making the Sonoita area a safer place."

Hyatt will lead approximately 300 agents and employees of the Sonoita Station, which lies approximately 25 miles north of the international border and is responsible for patrolling more than 22 miles of linear border. The station's area of responsibility stretches from the Patagonia Mountains to the west, to the Huachuca Mountains in the east and near Interstate 10 to the north.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
