Yuma, Ariz. - U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Sector seized 106 pills of ecstasy, five grams of ecstasy powder, three grams of marijuana, and arrested one suspected smuggler yesterday.
Monday afternoon, Border Patrol agents assigned to the Wellton Station checkpoint on Interstate 8 referred a suspicious vehicle to secondary inspection following a canine team alert. The vehicle, a blue Hyundai Sonata, was occupied by four males who were determined to be United States citizens. The driver consented to a search of the vehicle, wherein, agents discovered several small packages inside the vehicle's center console and in a luggage bag. Agents searched the occupants of the vehicle and found an additional 19 pills hidden in the pants pocket of the front passenger. Agents tested the contents of the packages and indentified the substances as ecstasy and marijuana.
The ecstasy, marijuana and passenger were turned over to the Yuma Narcotics Task Force.
