Convicted Sex Offender Arrested by Border Patrol

OCOTILLO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector arrested an illegal alien convicted of a sexual offense.

The incident occurred on Nov. 10 at approximately 2:20 p.m., when agents assigned to the El Centro Border Patrol Station encountered a man that illegally entered the United States nearly 29 miles west of the Calexico Port of Entry. Agents placed the man under arrest and transported him to the El Centro Sector Rally Point for further processing.

Records checks revealed that the man, a 42-year-old illegal alien from Guatemala, had a conviction on January 25, 2010 for “Indecent liberties with a child”, a sexual offense, out of Fayetteville, North Carolina. The man received a felony sentence of 12 months in prison for his crime.

The man was processed criminally for 8 USC 1326, Re-entry of Removed Aliens, and he will be held in federal custody pending his hearing.

In fiscal year 2021, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested and/or removed five individuals either convicted or wanted on sexual offense charges.
