STERLING, Virginia — Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized 325 grams of marijuana and $20,000 of unreported counterfeit currency Sunday during separate incidents at Washington Dulles International Airport.

Sunday morning, CBP officers discovered $20,000 in counterfeit $100 U.S. bills and a “Make it Rain” money gun in the checked baggage of a Nigerian-bound woman. The Nigerian woman allegedly admitted that she purchased the currency online for use in rap music videos. The paper notes closely resembled U.S. currency. CBP seized the counterfeit currency and released the woman to continue her trip.

Sunday afternoon, CBP officers inspected three parcels destined to Belgium and discovered 31 tins in each parcel. The 93 tins contained a green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana. The marijuana weighed a combined 325 grams, or about 11.5 ounces. The parcels were shipped from an address in West Hollywood, Calif., and were destined to separate addresses in Belgium.

“Our Customs and Border Protection officers’ knowledge of concealment methods and the technology they utilize on a daily basis played a key role in these discoveries,” said Casey Durst, CBP’s Field Operations Director in Baltimore. “I congratulate our officers for their dedication, which contributed greatly to CBP intercepting these dangerous narcotics and counterfeit currency.”

CBP uses a variety of techniques to intercept narcotics, unreported currency, weapons, counterfeit consumer goods, prohibited agriculture, and other illicit products, and to assure that global tourism remains safe and strong.

During a typical day last year, CBP seized 4,657 pounds of narcotics along our nation’s borders. Learn more about what CBP accomplishes during "A Typical Day."
