EAGLE PASS, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to Eagle Pass South Station interdicted a smuggling attempt, April 6.

At approximately 11 p.m., agents assigned to the immigration checkpoint on Highway 57 near Eagle Pass encountered a tractor-trailer being driven by a single male driver. During primary inspection, a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle’s cargo area. The tractor-trailer was referred to the secondary inspection area for further investigation. Border Patrol agents noticed the rear door of the trailer was shut and secured with a seal. Agents broke the seal to open the trailer and discovered 11 individuals inside lying on top of plastic pallets. The trailer had no air conditioning, proper ventilation, or any way to get out if necessary.

Upon further investigation, it was determined the individuals were illegally present in the United States and included 10 nationals of Guatemala and one national of Mexico.

All subjects were transferred to the Eagle Pass South Processing facility and processed in accordance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection policies and guidelines.
