Antelope Wells, N.M. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Antelope Wells port of entry stopped a fugitive who was considered to be armed and dangerous. Last Friday, law enforcement officials in Arizona were looking for the juvenile offender on probation violation charges related to criminal violations in Phoenix. He was unarmed at the time of the CBP apprehension and arrested without incident.

"Our officers did an outstanding job in intercepting and confirming the identity of this criminal. This is another good example of our officers' vigilance and attention to detail," said John Prewit, CBP port director Columbus, N.M. who oversees the Antelope Wells Port of Entry.

The fugitive apprehension was made at approximately 12:05 p.m. when the 16-year-old entered the Antelope Wells international crossing from Mexico. CBP officers performed a query on the individual and found that there was a National Crime Information Center warrant for the Phoenix resident. CBP officers took custody of the juvenile and confirmed the warrant. New Mexico State Police officers took custody of him.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
