Grand Portage, Minn. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers apprehended a Kent, Wash. man on Aug. 9, who was wanted for alleged robbery.
Officers arrested Daniel Pierre, 27, upon his arrival to the United States at the Grant Portage port of entry when a name check revealed that he was the subject of a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) warrant in Olympia, Wash.
"The technology available to assist our officers in the performance of their mission is resulting in the apprehension of more fugitives" said Pembina Area Port Director Mary Delaquis. "We will continue to remain vigilant and protect the Homeland by removing the criminal elements from our communities."
After verification of the warrant for arrest, Pierre was immediately taken into custody by CBP officers and turned over to the Cook County Sheriff's Office for extradition to Washington State. This is the 40th arrest this fiscal year at the Grand Portage port of entry and the second NCIC arrest in recent weeks.
NCIC is a centralized automated database designed to share information among law enforcement agencies. These warrants are for a wide range of offense including money laundering, robbery, narcotics distribution, sexual abuse of children, violation of protection orders, fraud, failure to appear, larceny and military desertion.
