Great Lakes Air and Marine Branch Nets Massive Amounts of Cash, Guns, and Drugs in FY2020

DETROIT— U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Air and Marine Operations (AMO) Great Lakes Air and Marine Branch Director Marc Sledge releases Fiscal Year 2020 enforcement statistics for the Great Lakes region.

The CBP Great Lakes Air and Marine Branch (GLAMB) headquartered and operational out of Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township, Michigan, oversees ten operational locations throughout the Great Lakes region.

During FY2020 Great Lakes Air and Marine agents conducted 4,776 Flight Hours along with 5,391 Float Hours resulting in the following enforcement statistics:

  • $9,155,344 cash
  • 929 lbs of Cocaine
  • 342 lbs of Meth
  • 3,418 lbs of Marijuana
  • 18 lbs of Heroin
  • 163 lbs of Fentanyl
  • 214 weapons
  • 182 apprehensions
  • 1 rescue

In addition to the aforementioned enforcement stats, GLAMB flew 180-hours during FY2020 in coordination with Operation Legend. Operation Legend is a coordinated initiative across law enforcement to address a recent surge in violent crime.

GLAMB also supported numerous other operations around the country to include nearly 230 flight hours supporting civil unrest, and nearly 500 flight hours supporting operations along the Southwest Border and in the Caribbean.

“I believe this was one of the most productive and challenging years for the men and women of the Great Lakes Air and Marine Branch,” said Marc Sledge Director Great Lakes Air and Marine Branch. “From the pandemic to an operational tempo that never slowed down, our Agents endured it all this year, and should be commended for the countless days and nights they spent on the front lines protecting America.”

The Great Lakes Air and Marine Branch was also instrumental in the investigation and intelligence operations that resulted in one aircraft seizures during the fiscal year.

Along with the above operations and enforcement activities the Great Lakes Air and Marine Branch Mobile Command Center facilitated communications at 12 national level security events which included Super Bowl LIV in Miami, the Kentucky Derby and Operation Legend in Las Vegas.
