LAREDO, Texas –  In a continuing trend, U.S. Border Patrol agents caught a convicted child molester near Rio Bravo, Texas.

The apprehension occurred during the early morning hours of June 16, when agents from the Laredo South Station apprehended an individual near Rio Bravo.  Agents were able to determine that the 38-year-old individual, a Mexican national in the country illegally, had a previous conviction for Attempt to Commit Sexual Assault of a Child, in Dallas and received a two-year sentence of imprisonment.

The individual was criminally charged for his immigration violations and remains in U.S. Border Patrol custody pending prosecution.

This apprehension marks the seventh arrest in a month by Laredo Sector agents of individuals with prior convictions or warrants involving sex crimes or abuse of children.

Despite the ongoing international COVID-19 pandemic, U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Laredo Sector continue to stand at the ready to secure the nation’s borders and prevent dangerous criminals from entering into the United States.
