Milltown Port Re-opens for Cross Border Traffic

Release Date
Thu, 02/10/2011

Milltown, Maine-U.S. Customs and Border Protection will resume operations at 8 a.m. tomorrow, Feb. 8, at the Milltown port of entry. The port was temporarily closed on Dec. 15, 2010, due to high flood waters inundating the port facility and surrounding area.

Over the last several weeks, CBP has worked diligently with the General Services Administration in making necessary repairs to the GSA-owned facility to meet CBP national security and operational requirements.

"We are looking forward to resuming operations and appreciate the diligence taken at all levels to get this facility up and operational," said Port Director Keith Fleming. "We also want to thank everyone in the area, on both sides of the border, for their patience until we could re-open the Milltown port."

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
