TUCSON, Ariz. –U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Arizona’s Port of Nogales arrested a Mexican national Tuesday for attempting to smuggle methamphetamine and heroin through the Port of Nogales.
CBP officers at the DeConcini Crossing referred a 19-year-old Nogales, Sonora, Mexico man for further inspection of his Dodge truck. Following an alert by a CBP narcotics detection canine, officers focused their attention to the engine compartment. They removed a dozen packages of drugs from the intake manifold. The drugs were identified as more than 1.5 pounds of meth, worth in excess of $5,000. They also seized nearly 5.5 pounds of heroin, worth almost $150,000.
Officers seized the drugs, truck, and arrested the man. He was then turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
