CBP Officers at Hidalgo International Bridge Seize $944K Worth of Methamphetamine

HIDALGO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge intercepted $944,500 worth of alleged methamphetamine that was being smuggled into the United States by two persons arriving from Mexico in a Dodge Ram pickup.

“On a daily basis our frontline officers continue their focus on securing our border while facilitating lawful trade and travel,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas. “This methamphetamine seizure with two arrests is emblematic of the commitment and vigilance.”

On March 18, 2021, the man and woman, (27) and (20), both U.S. citizens from Reynosa, Mexico arrived at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge in the pickup truck and a CBP officer referred them for further examination. A thorough secondary inspection utilizing all available tools and resources, resulted in the discovery of packages of suspected narcotics hidden within the truck’s gas tank. The extraction process yielded 23 packages weighing 47.2 pounds (21.42 kg) of alleged methamphetamine.

CBP OFO seized the methamphetamine, the vehicle and arrested both travelers, who were subsequently released to the custody of agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) for further investigation.
