Border Patrol arrest leads to 18-month sentence

PEMBINA, N.D. – Grand Forks Sector Border Patrol Agents arrest Convicted Felon.

On October 28, 2019, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Pembina Station agents arrested Juan Huerta-Navarrrete for being illegally present in the United States.  Record checks revealed Huerta-Navarrrete, a Mexican National, was convicted of Cocaine Possession with Intent by Douglas County, Nebraska in 2003.  He was sentenced to 20 months in prison before being deported to Mexico. Huerta-Navarrrete has previously been removed from the United States three times.

On January 6, 2020, in U.S. District Court, Fargo, North Dakota, Huerta-Navarrrete was convicted of one count of 8 USC 1326(a) & (b)(1) and sentenced to 18 months incarceration.

All persons apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure illegal aliens with criminal histories are positively identified
