Seized Backpacks Net Marijuana Valued at Over $500,000

Tucson, Ariz. - U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Sonoita Station seized 744 pounds of marijuana worth $595,200 on Friday.

Agents received a report of 10 suspected illegal aliens south of Sonoita. Agents responded to the area and were able to locate foot signs for the group and began tracking operations. The agents continued tracking the signs until they discovered 14 abandoned bundles of marijuana. The marijuana was transported and processed at the Sonoita Station.

The Border Patrol places high value on feedback and assistance from the public and treats the information with great importance. Cooperation and coordination between the Border Patrol and the public continues to yield results. The Border Patrol is dedicated to keeping drugs out of our communities. From Oct. 1, 2009 to May 31, 2010, the Tucson Sector Border Patrol seized more than 712,000 pounds of marijuana exceeding $569 million in value.
