WARROAD Minn. — On August 28, 2020, a Grand Forks Sector Border Patrol Agent, assigned to the Sector Intelligence Unit, assisted in the arrest of a man wanted for felony charges who was attempting to flee the United States.
The agent was advised that the Minneapolis Police Department had issued a warrant for a man suspected of Criminal Vehicular Homicide and it was believed that he may attempt to flee the U.S. to avoid prosecution. The agent promptly utilized information systems and coordinated with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to assist in locating the suspect.
During his investigation, the agent determined that the suspect was scheduled to depart the U.S. from Washington Dulles International Airport within a few hours. He quickly notified Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Field Operations at the Dulles Airport who encountered and apprehended the suspect at the departure gate.
“This was great work by our agent and an excellent team effort by all our law enforcement partners. The quick work to identify the potential travel plans and relay that information to our partners, combined with their immediate actions, resulted in the arrest of a suspect before he could leave the country.” said Acting Chief Patrol Agent William J. Maddocks. “I couldn’t be more pleased with the way this worked out, especially considering the seriousness of the allegations the suspect is facing.”
