Brownsville, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Los Indios International Bridge seized marijuana valued at approximately $92,500 concealed within a Ford Explorer.
On Sunday, August 29 at the Los Indios International Bridge, a CBP officer working at the primary inspection booth referred a black 1997 Ford explorer for a secondary examination. The vehicle's driver and sole occupant is identified as a 28-year-old male United States citizen who resides in Weslaco, Texas. While in secondary, further examination of the Ford by CBP officers resulted in the discovery of two metal compartments hidden within each of the Explorers' tires. A total of 16 packages were removed from within the Ford's tires with a combined total weight of 41.95 kilograms (92.5 pounds) of marijuana.
The marijuana from this seizure has an estimated street value of approximately $92,500. CBP officers turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) special agents for further investigation. CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicle.
"This load of marijuana will not enter our communities or reach the Rio Grande Valley's children thanks in large part to the great work being done by our CBP officers on the frontline," said Michael Freeman, CBP port director, Brownsville.
