Yuma Sector Agents Seize Methamphetamine and Arrest Subjects with Outstanding Warrants

YUMA, Ariz. –Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents working at the immigration checkpoint on Interstate 8 encountered three subjects, two with outstanding state warrants, attempting to transport methamphetamine on Saturday, May 9th.

Saturday morning, agents responded to a Border Patrol canine alert on a rented Nissan Kicks occupied by three individuals, all U.S. citizens, and sent the vehicle for a secondary inspection. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed an orange cooler in the rear cargo area. Inside the cooler, agents discovered three small packages of methamphetamine concealed under ice and soft drinks. The three packages of methamphetamine weighed approximately 1.14 kilograms and had an estimated street value of $5,000. Agents also discovered a backpack containing a small bag of methamphetamine for personal use and an electronic scale.

Agents arrested the driver, a 57-year-old Phoenix man, and the passengers, a 42-year-old male and a 52-year-old female from Tucson. Both passengers had outstanding state warrants.
