Criminal Investigator

Overview
Criminal Investigators coordinate and complete highly complex, difficult and sensitive criminal, civil and administrative investigations involving alleged misconduct, criminal activity and/or corruption by CBP employees and related entities.

Typical Assignments

Serving as a Criminal Investigator on the Critical Incident Response team
Gathering and analyzing vital information, facts, evidence, and intelligence from a variety of sources including law enforcement and CBP specific databases, crime scene/use of force incidents, and thorough interviewing subject and witness employees
Conducting investigations related to lethal and non-lethal use of force incidents through the responding to and processing of incidents and preparation of appropriate reports of investigation
Employing all of the agency's authorities and capabilities in support of criminal, corruption, misconduct, counter-terrorism and counter-intelligence investigations/programs directly affecting national security and agency integrity
Coordinating and completing highly complex, difficult and sensitive criminal, civil, and administrative investigations involving alleged misconduct, criminal activity, and/or corruption by CBP employees and related entities

Basic Eligibility
Eligible applicants must:

Be a U.S. Citizen
Have a valid driver's license
Be referred for selection prior to your 37th birthday (waiver for veterans’ preference eligible or those that have previously served in a federal civilian law enforcement position)
Have resided in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years (Residency Requirement Exceptions)
Be eligible to carry a firearm
Sign a mobility agreement
Meet the established medical standards and/or physical requirements for the position
Have successfully completed or be willing to attend an 11-week Criminal Investigator Training Program
Pass the application process

Investigative Analyst

Overview
Investigative Analysts conduct complex research and analysis, generate leads, and support criminal, serious non-criminal/administrative misconduct, and use of force investigations into CBP employees, their associates and criminal groups seeking to compromise CBP and the nation’s borders.

Typical Assignments

Generate intelligence leads, conduct intelligence activities, and maintain intelligence requirements for OPR
Conducts proactive threat analysis and risk mitigation by leveraging a variety of automated and manual rules, triggers, and system overlaps.
Researches, analyzes, and studies strategic risks facing CBP and its workforce, systems, and processes, and make recommendations to CBP management on how to mitigate those risks.
Gathers investigative information and data from public, commercial, and private-sector databases and government/law enforcement systems.
Prepares written analytical and research reports and investigative narratives.
Utilizes sophisticated software and analytic techniques to detect, analyze, and mitigate potential breaches of integrity and criminal activity.
Provides analysis to other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
Makes recommendations to management on policy changes and the acquisition of new or upgraded data systems, new systems, methods and/or projects.
