**Effective Immediately** Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents who meet the criteria defined 5 CFR 575.102 for new federal employees will be offered a $10,000 recruitment incentive upon successful completion of the academy. Additionally, new agents who accept a hard-to-fill duty location will be eligible for an additional $10,000 recruitment incentive (for a total of $20,000). Overview
Typical Assignments
- Responding to electronic sensor alarms;
- Interpreting and following tracks, marks and other physical evidence;
- Using infrared scopes during night operations;
- Responding to aircraft sighting and other anti-smuggling activities;
- Performing farm and ranch checks, traffic checks, city patrols and transportation checks; and
- Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways and using a variety of government assets. Assets may include, but are not limited to: vehicles, horses, vessels, watercrafts, off-road vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and motorcycles.
Basic Eligibility
Eligible applicants must:- Be a U.S. Citizen
- Have a valid driver's license
- Be referred for selection prior to your 40th birthday (waiver for veterans’ preference eligible or those that have previously served in a federal civilian law enforcement position)
- Have resided in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years (Residency Requirement Exceptions)
- Be eligible to carry a firearm
- Be willing to travel; you will be required to travel frequently. This job may require extended domestic and foreign temporary duty assignments.

Overview
Border Patrol Processing Coordinators support Border Patrol Agents with humanitarian care and intake processing of detainees and provide other clerical/administrative support to agents and other agency personnel.
Typical Assignments
- Receiving and processing custody of detainees, maintaining security and well-being of detainees; inventorying, tagging and storing detainees’ personal property for tracking;
- Transporting detainees to court proceedings and medical facilities;
- Maintaining contact with other sectors, stations, agencies and foreign consulates and making arrangements for removal procedures, travel and escorts;
- Logging the status of welfare checks and visual inspections of cells and occupants; and
- Drafting and maintaining administrative paperwork related to property, transportation and deportation.
