U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) held an engagement for non-governmental organizations on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. This engagement focused on the topic of care for those in CBP custody.
The CBP Acting Chief Medical Officer presented an overview of recent changes to the medical screening and treatment services provided to those in CBP facilities ---with specific regard to the southwest border. The discussion included access to medicine, the tracking of personal property, staffing and reorganization of medical personnel, and improvements to the medical health system.
The next stakeholder engagement will focus on the complaints process and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
